In Germany, compulsory full time education begins at the age of six and lasts for nine years. After that young people are no longer in full time education, but they must attend a part-time (vocational) school for three consecutive years minimum. So under this dual system the majority of participants take part in various recognized training occupations and later on take up employment as a ‘Skilled Worker’.

It normally lasts for three years but few professions related to engineering domain have longer duration of 3.5 years. The aim of this sort of vocational program in Germany is to provide, a well-structured training program to nurture the technical competencies and skills required to practice an occupation as a skilled worker in a changing world of work.

The organization providing the vocational training (Ausbildung) pay the trainee (Azubi) a training remuneration (monthly training salary) based on the mutual agreement between the parties. The amount of remuneration increases with every year of training.
